Every Friday morning from about half nine the market on The Golf Del Sur is on the Aguamarina car park. The Aguamarina looks over The Atlantic and the new Marina which has boats and yachts of all descriptions. You can buy bargain goods on all markets; cloths from just 2 Euros, belts, houseware, jewelry etc. Our picture shows Rob & Val on their Swarovski Crystal stall selling at 50% less than the shops!
Surrounding Areas
Although the Golf Del Sur has much to offer it is so conveniently placed on the south of the island that nothing is too far away. A bus to the capital Santa Cruz is only a 30 minute ride for less than 2 Euros.
Nine towns in the south have markets on different days. The Golf Del Sur Market is on a Friday morning.
San Blas, a five minute walk from the apartment is the “centre” of The Golf Del Sur and has much to offer with its relaxed atmosphere
Although San Blas is the commercial centre of The Golf Del Sur, with Bank’s, Estate Agents, doctors etc. it is also very much the place to be in the evening for food, drinks, entertainment and a superb atmosphere. Split into three distinct “squares”, the middle square has numerous restaurants with entertainment, so too does the top square, smaller, a little more cozy and intimate for that special night.
Los Abrigos is just a 20 minute walk along the picturesque coastal path.
The harbour of this small fishing village has some superb fresh fish restaurants. There’s the weekly market every Tuesday evening for bargains and souvenirs, then why not enjoy superb food in the Restaurante El Mirador for supper with views across the working harbour and Atlantic which are breathtaking.
El Me’dano & Playa del (beach of) Me’dano
Just 10 minutes in the car, near Reina Sofia, the south airport is the market town of El Me’dano. It has over a mile of golden sands, very shallow waters to the beach and where all the surfers locally tend to exercise their skills.. at varying levels! In a private area you can enjoy yourself as nature intended… on the nudist beach if your fancy it! Saturday morning (in the picture) is market day in “the old square” right on the beach front.
10 minutes in the car in the opposite direction to the airport, on the “old” road, as opposed to the motorway, and you pass Costa Del Silencio; again, on the coast and another private nudist beach! Sorry to sound too authoritative on this subject, but they are the only two we know of in the area! Las Galletas, half a mile away is a must; it is real “old Spain” with some lovely little shops of all descriptions. The sea front again is about a mile of golden sand with surfers, swimming and sun bathing. On the coastline is about a 500 metre stretch of lovely local restaurants to suit all tastes with a little sea wall (in the picture) to protect them from the sand. Most days the local fishermen sell fresh fish at the end of this line of restaurants in a small market area; you can pick and choose what you like.
